Tue Beatrrice.—We understand that the Steamer Princess Beatrice, Captain Keliey, will commence running between Charlotte- town and Halifax as soon as navigation will admit During the winter she has been subjected to a thorough overhauling at Halifax. O ppFELLowsiIr.—About thirty members if the City Lodges left on Thursday afternoon by special train on a visit to Prince Edw ard Lodge Summerside. The run was made in two hours. The degree team conterred the three subordinate degrees on a number of candidates concluding the work about mid night after which supper was served at Camp- bell’s Hotel and the visitors left for town at 12.45, arriving here at3a.m. The visit was very much enjoyed and will doubtless prove an advantage to Prince Edward Lodge whose members are faithfully working for the ab- vancement of the order,

Easter Beer.—The display of beef at the Easter Market on Saturday, was, in point of quality, excellent, but the qu: antity was not so great as at some former markets, Messrs. Blake Bros. exhibited five carcasses, the agevregate weight of which was 5,144 lbe., and the quality of which was all that conld be «e- sired. Messrs Saunders & Newsom also made asplendid display, showing three carcasses of excellent beef,—the aggregate weight of Which was Messrs. (reo. Thorne, William McGregor, John Drake, the Mesara. and others also made good displays.

The reporter found him hard at work in his laboratory, but he courteously consented to discuss poison and stomachs in the interest of the public. Asked about the case referred to in the despatch, Mr. Best said that on his return from Charlottetown, March 7th, he found awaiting him a human stomach and other organs securely sealed, with a letter from the coroner and instructions from the At- torhey General of Nova Scotia to report if any trace of puison was found. Here is the despatch referred to above :

New Grascow, April 2.—James McLeod, who was suspected of poisoning his wife at White Hil, near Hopewell, in this county, was to-day committed for trial at the Supreme Court. ‘The inquest on the remains of the un- fortunate woman was commenced about the same time that the sensational proceedings in the Weeks Sutherland poisoning case at Charlottetown were begun there. Mrs, Me- Leod was a Miss Jane Sutherland, daugliter of respectable residents of White Hill. She married MeLeod about two years ago ¢ and liived with him for a short time only. McLeod is a shoemsker. His sister, Christie Mc- Le +d, lived with them. On account of ex- treme erueltics the young wife left the house and undertook to a living for herself in another part of the settlement, She was McLecd’s second wife. In response to urgent invitations from McLeod and promises of better treatment, she again took up with him, but was put into quarters in an old house ad joining the one occu pi d by Mcleod und his sister. For several days he visited her, tak- food and drink. At length she took some tea which made her vi tently sick, and she com- plained of it to the neighbors. In a week she was dead. Previous to the burial an examin- ation was asked for by the husband, and the medical examiner declared everything all rignt. This did not satisfy her friends, and

In reply to a question about his ex- perience in criminal cases Mr. Dest said that he had been engag ed in hota within six months, which was @ rather unusual thing for any chemist. Different poisons had been used in each case. In connection }with the Weeks case, Mr. Best has, i since his arrival from Charloitecown, been

conducting a series of experiments which will make the case more complete, The result of these experiments Mr. Best wil testify to, if Mrs. Weeks is committed for trial at the supreme ccurt. It will be re- membered that the poison found in this case was arsenic, in solution, in the whiskey aud in a sediment in the bottom of the bottle. The experiments would tend to show that the poison used was in the form of Rough on Rats, which is 995 per pure arsenic, and the other hat of 1 per cent., a coloring matter. Mr. Best has, by

careful experiment, found out what this coloring matter is, and showed the reporter «ome Rough on Rats, which he had made himse!f, which was exactly similar in ap- pearance to the article sold in the stures.
