Mondays & Fridays in July & August - The P.E.I, National Park is holding shorebirds sessions at 10 and 11 am at the ramp beside the bridge at Covehead Harbour (west side of the bridge). There are English and French sessions so please call ahead to the National Park ofﬁce

Jul. 31 - Shorebirds of PEI — The Natural History Society’s Eric Marcum will be conducting a shorebird ﬁeld trip to East Point. Car pooling from Farm Centre, University Ave., in Charlottetown at 7 am sharp. Contact Eric Marcum at 675-3056 for further information and to register. YN

Aug. 28 - Pelagic Bird Tour with Captain Jeff MacNeill. Four-hour boat tour leaving from North Lake at 8 am. Pre-registration is required. $25 per person — maximum 18 people. Sept. 10 - Birding on the North Shore — The Natural History Society’s Dwaine Oakley, an expert birder, will lead a bird identiﬁcation trip at the Bubbling Springs and Covehead. Car pooling from the Farm Centre in Charlottetown at 7:30 am. YN

Oct. 4 - Mammalian Fauna of PEI, presented by Dr. Doug Sobey, a native Islander, ecologist, and a recently retired professor from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. Dr. Sobey will present his ﬁndings on the historic records of PEI mammals. The Society’s meeting starts at 7:30 pm at the Farm Centre, University Ave., Charlottetown. YN

Oct. 9 - THE BIG SIT! — Birding’s Most Sedentary event. The Natural History Society of Prince Edward Island sponsors the ﬁrst PEI Big Sit. THE BIG SIT! is like a Big Day, or a bird-a-thon in that the object is to tally as many bird species as can be seen or heard within 24 hours. The difference lies in the area limitation (inside a 17-foot circle) from which you can observe. What a great way to bird! Stay tuned for more details in our September newsletter. Glen Roberts is a member of the Astronomy Society and does a monthly presentation on CBC’s Main Street program and a column in the Guardian on astronomy. Dec. 6 - Winter Birds — what species overwinter on PEI and where can they be found? A good primer for the Christmas Bird Counts delivered by Eric Marcum a well-know Island birder. The Natural History Society’s meeting starts at 7:30 pm at the Farm Centre, University Ave., Charlottetown. YN
