cause at the same time). I've also been working with Clare Henderson, Chair of Council, to put together a ‘Girls' Night Out' at the Wave, scheduled to happen sometime in mid November. This promises to be a good time, sol _ encourage all the ladies on campus to bring their jammies, favourite girlie movies, and singing voices to help raise money for breast cancer research.

Another big endeavour for this month has been promoting the Provincial Election. We need to make post secondary education a priority, and that means getting stu- dents out to cast their votes. A leadership debate was held in the Student Centre on September 16, and it was great to see a number of UPEI students show up to hear about what each party had to say. I've been recruiting interested stu- dents in hopes of implementing Safe Walk, a program that has been very successful at other universi- ties. This would be a volunteer- based program, and I'm asking interested students to donate some time to help keep our campus safe. The objective is to ensure that no student, staff or faculty member - male, female, whatever - should have to walk across campus alone at night. PEI is a pretty peaceful place, but such a program shouldn't have to be formed in response to a crime wave; the idea is to keep the UPEI campus safe. Council Update

_ A lot of students have no idea what the UPEI SU Student Council does. Sure, you've probably visited the website a few times, but really, what do we do for you? Starting after the next council meeting, the UPEI SU Council will be reporting to you, the student, via the Cadre after every meeting to keep you up to date. This is being done in the hopes that you guys will know a little bit more about what we do and maybe want to get a little more involved in the various events the SU puts off. Student apathy is a problem at UPEI and hopefully, increasing the transparency of the Student Union will help fight
