Talks alone are insufficient, so field trips will enable visitors to personally experience Canada's deep south. Take in Carolinian plants, birds, butterflies, turtles, toads and frogs,

a wolfhowl in Algonquin Park, an evening spring chorus of breeding frogs and a hike led by Robert Bateman along the Niagara Escarpment near his studio. If you are interested in participating in the field trips, send for more information as soon as possible because trip participant levels.have been set and trip registration is on

a first-come, first-served basis.

A wide variety of exhibits from naturalists' clubs and private individuals as well as fifty Robert Bateman limited edition prints will be on display.

MARCH MEETING REPORT. The March meeting featured a very interesting account of prehistoric P.E.I., given by Dr. John Maloney. Dr. Maloney told of the arrival of early man to this continent via the Bering Strait land bridge. Various groups of these peoples spread across North and South America, some eventually reaching Prince Edward Island. Here they camped along the shoreline, gathered shellfish, fished with wiers, collected wild plants and huhted game. Dr. Maloney impressed us all with his great appreciation and practical knowledge of the ways and means of everyday existence of the Island's early Indians.

APRIL MEETING. Al Smith of the Canadian Wildlife Service in Sackville, New Brunsw1ck will show a film on Great Blue Herons and discuss the results of last summer's heron census in the Maritimes. All those involved in last year's surveys or interested in participating in this year's should make a special effort to attend. Mr. Smith is also the coordinator of the Maritimes Nest Records Scheme.

SLIDE CONTEST; Up to ten slides may be submitted per entrant. Slides may be taken in P.E.I. or elsewhere. Contrary to instructions given in the last newsletter, Margaret Mallett requests that the name of the photographer 335 be marked on the slide. Entries should be given or mailed to Margaret Mallett by the April 7th meeting. Slides will be shown and prizes awarded at the May 5th meeting.
