Keen Competition---Winners in the Different Events.

The sports of the Abegweit-Crescent Athletic Club were held on Saturday after- noon on the grounds of the Charlottetown Amateur Atbletic Association. There was a large attendance, and the different events oo the card were pulled offin excellent shape by referee Johnson, ttarter Camp- tell sn@ the other officials in charge.

In the bicycleevents the finiebes, as & rule, were very close. Butin the longer races expecially there was very little com- peti'icn anti) the Snal lap although epecta- tors a8 well as officials at times urged the contestants to greater speed. The iatro- duction of pace-makers would prerent a good deal of holding back in these races and would make them much more interest- ing to onlookers.

The competition in the flat and hurdle races and jumping was keen, the difference between the winners in wome instances being exceedingly small.

The handsome silver cnp presented by Mr.L. W. Cook to the competitor making the greatest pumler of poimts in the bicycle events ‘a awarded to Louis Large. The pin presented by J.B. Dawson to the competitor making the highest number of pointa in the other events was won by Mr. Kenneth MsPherson.

Asa perusal ot the summary will show, most of ihe prizes were captured hy the Island boys, who made an excellent showing in competition with cracks from the other provinces.

The falure of the scratch men to make a better showing in the handicap races, in- dicates that the cracks of former days were not ip their best form or that ths bhandi- caps were too great. The latter seems to be the prevailing impression.

The officers race was very interesting. Mr. PS Brown partic'pated ip this event, and made a splendid showing. Some of bis ad-nirers in sppreciation of his effort presented M1 Brown with an elegant bov~ quet, which was gracefully acknowledged.
