The OttawaFree Press does not wen- der at Montreal Irishmen resenting the caricatures that are put oOo as stage Irishmen, and recalls the fact that Hon. Mr. Anglin once eloquently denounced ‘the insult to the Irish race so generally cou- veyed by Amertcan plays called (rish. Mr. Anglin’s argument failed in stopping the cause of the grievance. Perhaps the egg and potato protest will be more effect- tive. It 18, at any rate, more in the line that the authors of the plays would be ex- pected to understand.

Quick Journey To Invia. ~The journey from London to Bombay now occupies, by the quickest route, somewhere about seven teen days. Bat it is now contemplated to save about seven daysin the journey by the construction of a Trans-Arabian rail- way. Sixty years ago the Hast India Company voted the sam of £25,000 tor an elaborate suryey of the Euphrates Valley, and in 1872 a committee of the House of Commons recommended the construction of a railway from the Mediterranean Sea to the head of the Persian Galf. But no- thing more was done, Now the occupation of Egypt by the British aiferds additional facilties for such an undertaking aod it is likely that the work will be soon entered
upon.
