Acctpenr To a Station Master—Saturday Mr. R. M. Holesworth, station master at Shubenacadie, was hunting ducks, and when in the act of firing at a flock the gun exploded in his hand. His right hand was badly hurt, the flesh being torn and burned with powder. Although the wound is very painful, it is thought that amputation will not be neces- sary.— Moncton Times.

Sanpata Scuoot Service.—On Sabbath, the 28th iust., the public annual exercises of the Stanhope School, of which Mr. George Alexander is the efficient superintendent were conducted in the presence of a large congre- gation. Rev. Mr. Steele had charge of the exercises, and made suitable remarks to the young people. The recitations were geod, and well delivered ‘The school has had a prosperous season.

WE are pleased to learn that Dr. George Carruthers of North Bedeque, who lately dis- tinguished himself at McGill College, has a‘ a recent «xamination at the Royal College of Physicians, London, received the degree of L. R. ©. P. Lond. Dr. C left here less than five months ago, expecting to be about a year in London before appearing for examination. It is therefore unnecessary to say that his suc- cess has been very marked.— Pioneer.

Missiosar¥ Mretines on the Little York Circuit have recently been held at Little York and at Union Road with a fair amount of success. At Union. the chair was ably oecupied by Mr. Isaac Seller, and the meeting was addressed by Rev. H. R. Baker, A. 8. The speech was avery able one. Rev. G. Steel read the report. At Little York, Mr. George Vessey made an excellent chairman. Mr. Baker was the speaker. His address was very appropriate. Mr. Steel read the report and made suitable remarks thereon,

The Pioneer says that Water street in that town has very much changed its appesrance for the better during the past few months. Severe] of the houses and stores have received a touch- ing up of paint and been otherwise made to look more tidy. The vacant lot east of Hol- man’s store has been filied up by the new

bank building, now complete on outside. This handsome brick structure, besides filling the gap in question

improves very materially the appearance of that section. A Lutte Too Mccu — The Moncton T'ran- script, of the 30th October reports: —Yester- day I. C. R. Policemen McDonald and O’Rourke took a passenger on the St. John express to the station. The -following was entered on the police record: ‘* Andrew Sunphy, drunk and aisorderly on train and smashing window in first-class car. Had om his person $25 in cash, coupon ticket for Portland, Maine, check, purse, knife, some small articles, and a flask half tall of brandy.” Andrew comes up before Stipendiary Wort- man at 10 o'clock to-day. To a Transcript reporter last evenirg the man gave his name as John McDonald, and said his father had given thim $30. He was from P. E. Island and was ov his way to Portland. This was his first trip away from home and he had got into company with seme fellows who were drinking and had taken a littletoo much. He inquired what town he was in, if the building was a jail, and what he had done, He was never ina lockup before, and when he got out he was going to stay cut. He was overjoyed when he learned his money and railway check were safe.

Tux Bosrox Comepy Co.—‘‘Not Guilty, a tale of the Manchester Cotton Famine,” was put on the stage last night by the above com- pany, and was well played threughout, The play opened with Noah Learoyd, the leader of the strike, presenting a petition to Richard

Readley, a wealthy and influential manufac- turer, desiring that he would use his influence to give more liberal terms to the strikers. The petition is of course rejected and the men told to come back instantly or the factory would be shat down. The _ strikers then hold a meeting and propose to fire all the factories, commencing with Read- ley’s first. At the time these things were taking place Readley is professedly in love with Learoyd’s daughter. Thus he is enabled to discover the plans of the strikers and had numbers of the Jeading men amongst them arrested, with the exception of Learoyd. He then makes an engagement with Jane to meet him at acertain secluded spot, where he is shot dead by Learoyd. Jem Starkle, an engineer, and a jover of Jane’s, is arrested for the mu-der.and is on the point of being convict- ed when ap alibi is proved,and he is discharged. The play was ‘one of thrilling interest, and | the different performers sustained their differ ent parts tolerably well. Miss Grey as Jane | Learoyd, and Mr. Webber as Moneypenny, ‘the counsel for the defence, were very goed indeed, Webber's local hits being much appre- ciated.
