The volunteers are quartered mostly in barns, where kitchens and sleeping accoim- modation had been fittelup. Here [found some men cleaning their revolvers, others read ing newspapers or writing, while about a dozen were threshing corn or walking ever te an ivy-covered, ruined castle within the demesne, whose ‘ancient battlements have not for centuries witnessed such a martial scerie. I discovered two great fires rearing around the voluateers and constabu- : lary, who were trying to keep themselves wari, and were inaking the walls echo with their laugiter. The entire scene at Capt. Boycott’s farm is so strange that it is im- ssible to cease wondering atit. It is alf serious, half ridiculous, and wholly interesting. It represents one of the most remarkable events in the history of Ireland. During the coming week there will proba- bly be only a re petition of the scenes which I have algeady described. The report that ; awoman hai been ‘‘earded” for selling food to one of the relief party turns out to } be wholly false.

The Observer has reason to believe that the Ministry do not contemplate any im- mediate exceptional measure for the pres- ervation of peace in Ireland, but intend to defer action uncil the meeting of Parlia ment, which may be expeeted early in January. The Pall Mall Gazette on Satur- ’ day evening said the talk that Parliament will be summoned early in January pro- bably has good foundation. Under ordin- ary circumstances Parliament would not meet until Mebruary. Lonpon, Nov. 16.
