The absorption of iron from the digestive tract of animals is very slow and in order for a pig to grow normally and not deve- lop an anemia there must be a small amount of iron available to this pig at all times.

Iron is used in the manufac- ture of hemoglobin which helps to carry oxygen in the blood. SYMPTOMS . 5

‘The observable symptoms of anemia usually do not appear until the pig is about four weeks of age and they show up as a paleness and in the development of long hair. As it becomes more severe the animal breaths at a faster rate. Because of a hemo-. globin deficiency the body com- pensates by the. heart pumping the blood around faster and the lungs breathing faster. Thus the
