The farmers of Presque Isle, Mays- ville and vicinity have lately had meeting to consider the prop sition of | the Maine Beet Sugar Co., wie pro- pose to build a raw sugar ectony & Presquo Isle another season, provided the farmers will agree to grow a suf. ficient amount of beets, for which the Company propose te pay 34 per ton, returning the pulp to the farmers for feeding purposes. A soliciting com- mittee has been raised concerning the work. of which the North Star says: “As the towns in this vicinity ure soon to be canvassed we sincerely hope our farmers will make

A Brunswick, Me., correspondent of the Maine Farmer writes :—Several of our farmers who have cultivated the

Vigorous ciforts are being made to| obtain relief for the unfortunate share- | holders of the Glasgow Bank. Sub-| seriptious are being raised, not only) throughout the United Kingdom, but in Canada and the other colonies with that object. Several schemes of a more or less sensational character | have been proposed to raise money. | A proposal for x gigantic lottery of | six millions, with prizes of three mil-| lions, has been received with favor by | many influential people. The trouble) is that the Haglish -:people have had) sufficient social gambling. Anothor | scheme of an-entively different charac-! tor is an association for compromise | between the bank shareholders and) creditors, the supposition being that! many of ihe crodiiors would be willing to accept a modGrate dividend, if paid iminediaiely. A third scheine is the formation of a compsny for the speedy liquidation of the Sank. By this or- ganization it is held that the bank would realize from calls and assets over thirty millions of dollars, which would enable the liquidators to pay a dividend of ten shillings onjthe pound | to the creditors. Meanwhile, the sub-| scription lists in Scotland and elsewhere ave being weil filled, and many in-. nocent victims will thereby he saved. from total rain.
