I must explain before I delve any further into this topic thatI do notin any way hold some sort of animosity towards this maga- zine beyond the fact that I deplore their publishing of this annual popularity contest. This hatred is not evident on the surface anyway. I cannot go without saying that I find this article to be very discouraging and somewhat insulting, but neither can I share the views of President Eliot by saying I feel the ‘‘Maclean’s’’ article to be meaningless. If I felt that way I would hardly be taking valuable time to protest in this manner.

I must be honest in saying that I would probably not be taking such an emotional stance on this issue if I was enroled at Mt. Allison (I would be celebrating in the streets), but seeing that Iam a student of the University of Prince Edward Island, it is somewhat my duty to come to its defence. Iam proud to bea student of this university regardless of the fact that it has been relegated to second last position ona ratings guide published by an elitist Upper Canadian Magazine.

I have had many a sleepless night as I tossed and turned imagining the scenario of applying for admission to a graduate school only to be rejected on the basis of one news (using that word liberally) item. Iam very pleased nonetheless to have chosen this university fo! my undergraduate study and if the truth be know it was not mY only choice, but my first choice.
