In the Rideau match, which closed the tirst day’s competition, Sergéant J. Milton Davison captured a prize of $5. This match was open to all members of the As- sociation, and was for prizes aggregating $515, divided as follows: First, $30; sec- ond, $25; third, $20; fourth, $15; ten prizes of $10 each; ten of $8; twenty of $6; and twenty-five of $5. The range was six hundred yards, any position.

Allan, of Charlottetown.

All the regular firing was suspended dur- ing the afternoon for the skirmishing matches, which were finished by evening gun fire.

The question of aggregate scores is al- ready proving of interest to the field. So far, Armstrong, of Ottawa, McVittie, of Toronto, Hartt, of St. John, and Dover, of Truro, are at the top, with a difference of but one point.

To-morrow the Minister of Militia and standing matches will be shot.

It is reported that Symnus, Dawson & Co. have received the contract for the con- struction of the Chignecto Marine Railway.

The C. P, R. are making surveys for a continuous line of railway on the south side of Lake Superior to Winnipeg. It is seventy miles shorter than the northern reute.

Hon. Messrs. Foster and Tupper will take part in the demonstration at Bever- ton on Thursday. The Premier will, if possible, accompany them.

Burueton, Vt., Sept. 4. The State election to-day resulted in the success of the Republican ticket by about 25,000 majority, a gain of over 3,000 over the vote for 1894.
