Well, orientation week has come and gone for yet another year. This year we tried something new by ' having orientation week.coincide with the first week of classes. fiy doing this we hoped to draw larger crowds — unfortunately we were wrong for many events.

For those who did become involved, however, it was a good week. We started Tuesday night with a very vocal tour of the campus followed by a open house in the SUN and CIMN offices. The frosh all met some new friends Tuesday night, even if the Goon Squad had to give them a little push in the process.

Throughout the week a group of upperclassmen_ affectionately called the “goon” squad were/on the prowl giving our.new frosh little things to do — so if you noticed people collecting signatures on toilette paper or singing O'Canada in the Library lounge, it was the squad in action. Hopefully, ' ~ next year we'll be able to get every frosh instead of the sprinkling this year.

The barbeque and banquet were quite successful this year even though attendance was down. Colin Clark and his staff at the cafeteria certainly did their part — thanks. Fred and Flossie were back to entertain at this years banquet and were a huge success. Yes, the eating events went well, but not as well as the drinking ones. The Pig and Whistle and Beer Bash were great successes.

Shinerama participation was down again this year, but the NO students who came managed to collect over twelve hundred dollars — not bad at all. ‘

All in all, orientation 1979 went over well. The committee consistin of Nora MacAdam, Linda Dunning,‘ Rick Tersteeg, Dave Dobson, Patty Bradley, Ellen Hearing, and Marion Basha would like to extend their thanks to all of those who aided us in many ways (there
