TERRY FOX RUN

U.P.E.I. students, faculty, and staff will. be joining thousand of Canadians who will walk, jog, wheel and run the Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 15th. This is the first time U.P.E.l. has organized to help the cause of the Run, but organ— izers Karen Blacquiere and Miles Turnbull expect a “huge turn-out”. Partici- pants and volunteers will take part in the Run/Walk and then get together in the Panther Lounge for refresh— ments and celebration. Any- one who can move can be a part of the Terry Fox Run!

The Terry Fox Run is meant to be a fun, spirited day to commemorate Terry Fox and help raise money for Cancer Research. Many people still feel very strongly about the cause for which Terry Fox gave his life. His mother, Betty Fox, describes the run as a “fight”. “Terry's dream was to find a cure for Cancer. We’re still fighting for that dream.”

Many different groups are

joining in this fight. The U.P.E.l. freshmen have a headstart because most of them received Terry Fox Run pledge sheets in the mail. Be- fore they even left home, they were getting sponsors for their part in the Run. II is expected that the freshmen will lead the other claSses in participation! Obviously this issues a challenge to the upper-classes.

The U.P.E.I. Soccer Panthers are taking the initiative to use the Terry Fox Run as a “practice to help a good cause”. Glenn smiley, team captain says, “The guys need a run anyway. 1 can’t think of a better reason to run on a Sunday. The Terry Fox Run is something we all believe in.” They’re hoping the other athletic teams will get involved as well.

Pledge sheets are available all over the campus. Pick one. up, decide to participate in whatever way you can, get some sponsors, and be there on Sunday, September 15th. Bring a friend!

Recognizing the importance of literature to everyone’s education, the English Department welcomes first-year stu- dents into most of its ZOO-level courses. The Department’s Supplement to the University Calendar contains information on all the English courses to be offered in 1985-86 and may be consulted at Registration.
