the talents. character and aspirations of Mr. Davies, would rest content with a) triumph won on the stréhgth cf a state- ment which is not true; and we, there- fore, look to Mr. Davies for a prompt correction of this capital error.

The point is a most important one.

At the meeting, Mr. Benjamin Balder- son, a very intelligent member of the Lib eral Party, called attention to it, and pub- licly asked if Mr. Davies’ statement with reference to it, were correct; and the whole meeting evidently laid great weight upon it, and it is safe to say that had the truth been told the resolution might not have passed

The duty of Mr. Davies to undo the wrong he has done to his followers is, therefore. the more binding, and we hope to have the pleasure, to-morrew, of insert- ing au advertisement calling a meeting to enable Mr. Davies to do so.

MORE POINTS TO BE NOTED. @

Parliament voted one hundred millions of acres to the Government for the pur- pose of constructing this railway. As far as the Lower Provinces are concerned, it would have been better if more land had been taken |-y the company ahd less money. Sut the terns now occupying the attention of Parliament are far preferable te the scheme pro osed Mr. Blake,—that is to construct the road entirely by borrowing money, and to continue to make use of a road running through a foreign country, finding an outlet for the produce of the North West at foreign ports. Mr. Blake’s proposal would involve, as We have already pointed ont, the expenditure by the Gov ernment of a large sum for construction and between six and eight millions of dol- lars yearly (or operating after the comple- tion of the | ne. By the agreement which has been entered into, the uncertainty of | the cost of ‘he road to the country is re- moved;jand we now know that it can be constructed ‘or a sum which we are able to pay without inconvenience, even if we give our share of the lands away.

We have said that the Government was voted by Parliament last session,

The Memorial of the undersigned Commit- tee of the Campbell’s Cove Breakwater, East Point, named at a general meeting held at Fairfield on Tuesday, November 25rd, 1830, respectfully sheweth—

1. That your Committee Were unavimously named at the said meeting to forward you this Memorial,

That they were instructed to say that the immediate construction of the Breakwater would be of immense beneiit to your con- stituents along the North Side, embracing a very large and important section of the coun- try, comprising Lot45, 46 and 47; that this part of the Island is peculiarly adapted fer farming and fishing purposes, and we are all weil convinced that the building of this much needed public work would be the means of imparting an important impetus to these two great industries of the people of this part of the Island.

3. Vhat the people of the North Side have no harbor from St. Peter’s to Souris—a dis- tance of over 50 miles—from. which to ship their produce.

4. That it would not only benefit us and our fishermen very materially, but likewise the fishermen of Nova Scotia from Cape Canse to Cape Sable, as well as the Island of Cape Breton. As the Northside is theirs as well as our great tishing grouncs during the tishing| season, the breakwater, if built, would afford them as well as our own fishermen a place of shelter and supplies without being under the necessity of running south of the Island, a distance of 40 or 50 miles.

5. That owing to the recent great develop- ment of our fisheries as shown by official sta- tistics lately published, and the number of lobster factories for canning purposes about to be opened here next spring, the building of the Breakwater becomes one of the most (if not the most) important public works on the

A youNG MAN named William Perkins fell through the ice opposite Faleonwood Asylum on Christmas day, shortly after nine o'clock. He called lustily for help, and was, after 11 o’elock, released by Richayl Ceady, express- man, and a number of railway men. The young man suffered much from exposure, and it was reported in the city that he died from the effects this morning. But this, we learn, is not correct.
