Naphlha Gas Blasi Takes lives Of 5 Eight in Quebec
AMOS, Que. (CF)-A mother and seven of her 11 children per- : ished Monday in a fire touched off by an exploding can of naphtha gas in an isolated bushland shack. The fire, claiming the greatest death toll in a single blaze in Can- ada this winter. was in a colonist's frame home at Manneville, about I 2) miles northeast of this north- western Quebec community.

Sgt. Dectective C. Feah-Lajoie, in charge of the provincial police in Abltlbi district, said witnesses ' believe the fie was caused by a can of naphtha being placed too ' near the stove. It exploded and the home was afiame in seconds.

Neighbors said the can of naph- tha was delivered during the morn- ing by Mrs. Robichaud's brother. The fire oeurred at 10:80 a.m.

It was the third major fire in Quebec in 14 hours. Twelve of the 15 victims were children under 10 years .
