suggestions to help make 1993 your best year

ever. Student Exchange Programs

For all frosh and sophomores out there who attained an average of at least 70% last semes- ter, a student exchange program may be the chance you have been waiting for. We have agreements with Dundee University in Scot- land, Deakin University in Australia, Muskingum College in Ohio and Eastern New Mexico University in (you guessed it) New Mexico. We currently have an agreement with the University of South Florida, but it has yet to be confirmed for next year. If you earned a 70% average last semester, you are eligible to com- plete your second or third year at one of the above institutions.

Worried about cost? Student exchanges are actually very reasonably priced. An exchange student pays regular UPEI fees for tuition and similar fees for residence. The only major extra cost is transportation. Not a bad deal, eh?

The deadline for applications is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19. Time is running out; get your application at Student Services now.

Sojourns

Sojourns is anew computer program offered through Student Services containing over 2500 International work and study opportunities. With so many to choose from I’m sure that you will find something of interest to you. Some exam- ples of programs listed are volunteer work in South America, language programs in Italy, MBA programs in Europe, work in Irish youth hostels, internships in London and many more. So if you are looking for an interesting way to spend your summer, fall, or the next five years of your life, Sojourns might be your answer.

Information on Summer Employment Oppor- tunities

Information on various summer jobs available for this coming summer is available on a bulle- tin board in the Robertson Library. The bulletin board is maintained through the VP External of the Student Union. The board is in response to the lack of employ- ment services on campus that resulted from the Federal Government’s closure of the Canada Employment Centre on Campus despite vocal opposition from the UPEI Student Union Coun- cil, the Canadian Federation of Students, and university administrators and the fact that it was being widely used by students. While larger universities have been able to fund their own employment services, the UPEI administration has not yet committed itself to funding a re- placement service.
