Of course, these are only two examples. It is quite reasonable to expect this in a small campus paper like the X-Press. However, the trend continued. Last week, I resubmitted the debating article, with a lot of expansion. However, it was still not published. I also sent in a letter to the editor, which was also not

published.

| understand that the paper does not have a lot of spare room, but shunning the debating society twice inarow? This seems a bit excessive. It also makes for very long debating articles when they do get published. I sure hope the article gets in soon, other- wise it will have to become a supplement.

Dear Editor,

lam writing regarding a letter that appeared in last weeks X-PRESS written by ‘‘a fellow Canadian.’’

This person mentions various nationalities in Canada that he/she believes to be “‘losers’’ because of certain political happenings that went against these peoples. He/she goes on to mention the Irish, many of which cane to Canada after the British. It is very correct in saying that the Irish were oppressed. Many Irish Catholics who live in the six countries of Ireland which is under British power still suffer this oppres- sion today.

However I think it is extremely wrong and insulting to say that the Irish were defeated and are a conquered people, as implies by a ‘‘a fellow Canadian.’’ The Irish were never defeated, never over the centuries has Irish freedom fighters laid down and conceded to British power. Many have and many will give their lives for freedom for Ireland and the Irish. the sacri- fices that these martyrs made for Irish freedom must be respected, and not insulted with misinformed ideas about defeat. the struggle for freedom still continues today, in Ireland, and in the hearts if those in exile from their homeland. our day will come.

Also, do people such as ‘‘ Quebecoise in U.P.E.I.’’, and ‘‘a fellow Canadian’’, not believe in their opin- ions enough to have the guts to sign their names to

their beliefs and letters.
