THIS admirable article has been tested for some years, and proved very valuable, becoming a perfect slate, as hard a8 mar- vle ina few months, completely protect- ing whatever is coated with it from the action of weather and fire—a_ better fire- proof than tin or xine. Several Insurance Companies eerti'y they will insure build- ings covered with it ata cheaper rate, than if covered with those metais. It is of two cojors, the black is best for roof- ing—the chocolate the best thing ever discovered for sides of either bock or wood, forming @ perfect stone coaung of a haudsome stone or chocolate color, can be easily changed by a little white lead to suit the taste. ‘There is nothing equal to it for steumboat and car decks, and uil kinds of iron,as it forms a coating near- lyas hard asthe iron itself, and never cleaves off.

Governor, in accord- ance with the wishes of that Majority, having appointed me thereto, ny seat ya the Assembly has become vacant, and | arm required to go back to you, in order that you may ratify by re-electing me, the selection which His Excelleney and the Majority of the Assembly have made.
You are no doubt aware, by the pub- lished proceedings of the Asseasbly, that } recorded ray vote against giving retiring allowances io the Attorney General ond Colonial Secretary. This vote was giver by me with much reluctance, but in strict conformity with » pledge I had made te you. I regretted having given this pledge, inasmacl as it compelled me te appear in opposition to that party with whom 1 have uniformly acted—for, were I not restrained by my pledge, [| should have cheerfully voted with the Majority ; because | cannot deem that the conces- sion made by the Assembly,and demanded by the Lieut. Governor, in compliance with his tmiperative instructions, ought te be pul in comparison with the immense advantages which wall acerve to this Co- lony from the introduction of Responsible Government. It is not necessary that I should particularise these advantages on this occasion, as I have no doubt they are well understood by most of you, and as | will have a better opportunny of en- tering intoa full explanation of them, should that be required, at the time of the election. Suffice it wo say that, indepen- dently of the great privilege which the people now possess, under the truly Brities system of Government conceded to this Island, of controlling the administration of their own affairs—Imperial revenues to the amount of nearly two thousand pounds, bitherto beyond the controu) of the Legisiature, have been surrendered to the Colony.
