Early today the results showed that throughout England and Wales Labor had gained 198 seats and lost- elght; Conservatives had gained 13 and lost 104; Liberals had gained four and lost 34 while Independents‘- galncd five and lost 74.

At a general meeting of potato producers, brokers and dealers in the Prince of Wales College hail last night a resolution was adopted approving of the marketing scheme for potatoes applicable to Ontario‘ Quebec and the Maritime Prov- inces, ps recently prepared at the Ottawa conference and approved by the Federal Marketing Board.

The meeting also went on. record as urging upon the Canadian Gov- ernment to immediately place an embargo against British woolen goods entering Canada. and to re- tain same in effect until such time as the British Government removes the existing embargo against Can- adian , ietoes. g

Mr. W. R. Shaw. provincial live- stock superlntendent and chairman of the Provincial Marketing Board. presided at the meeting, which was well attended despite unfavorable weather conditions. The adoption of the marketing scheme came af- ter lengthy discussion and on a. standing vote.

Messrs. J. J. Trainer, president of the P. E. I. Potato Growers As- sociation and a member of the Provincial Marketing Board, to- gethm‘ with Mr. M. G. McNeely, manager Associated. Shippers In- corporated, were appointed Prince Edward Island representatives on the local board under the scheme.

It was decided by resolution to leave with the Provincial lvflhlster of Agriculture the appointment of the advisory committee of pro- ducers which will work in conjunc- tion with the local board members

Chairman's Remarks

The chairman referred to the two previous meetings and to the objections to the scheme previously submitted. He referred to the con- ference at Otswa. where represent- atives of the five Eastern Canadian Provinces met and evolved a scheme in conjunction with Hon. Robert Weir, Minister of Agricul- ture. He referred to the weakness of- the first scheme in as much as it applied to this province only. The chairman then called on Mr. J. J. 'I‘mln0r to submit his report of the Ottawa. conference.
