EDITORIAL

Last night,Nonday january 10,1 attended a dance in the U.P.E.I. Gymnasium sponsored by the Social Committee.The enter- tainment was supplied by a local group,The Blue Crystals,and was undoubtly the most sickening display of 1959 bubble-gum boog—a-loo that i have ever witnessed.

Their selection of music star— ted with Tom(bump—and-grind) Jones, passed savegly thru Glen(one-beat) Cambell and finally came to rest on the remains (by now somewhat decayed) of Dawn with "Knock three Times".

Now the question which i feel needs answering is:why does the Social Committee complain about lack of student attendance at these events? Students just aren't interested in paying money to li— sten to "Granada-Type" crap from off-beat dizzy-asses?

If the Social Committee hopes to ever make any profit at all(or for that matter to break even) then they will have to supply some decent entertainment?

I suggest that they hire groups from the mainland thru the Halifax Musicians in Nova Scotia.It may cost them a little more for these groups but at leastthey will have better entertainment and a much larger student attendance!

in your newspaper as it may be of some benifit to a few of your readers.

Mary MacKeen,well known chester artist,will present an exhibition of her work as the inaugural presentation of the art gallery in the new Acadia Students Center in wolfville. the exhibition will be opened by Rear Admiral 30V. Br— ock,RCN (Ret) at 2 p.m. on monday January1B,1972. This will coincide with the opening of the Center.

The exhibition will be composed of oils,charcoals and pastels and will deal primarily with works portraying children for which Mrs. MacKeen is famous.

She is perhaps best known for her sketch of a child which is used as a logo for the Issac walton Killam Children Hospital.

In 1969,Mrs. Mac Keen exhib- ited her work in the gallery of the Student Union Building at Dalhousie University.This exhibit was viewed by over five hundred people in a two week period—

a record in that year for the‘ Gallery.

The exhibition at Acadia University will run for two weeks beginning January 10. Gallery hours are from two to four and from seven—thirty to nin"e-thirty in the evening.

It is with increasing dis- pleasure that i write you this “letter.

However i feel that it is time someone other than the Cadre people began to raise some shit over the way the cafeteria is run!

Im sure many stadents feel as i do when they enter and moreso when they leave the cafeteria— sick to their gutsllThe food in that den of iniquity is the "shits" There is just no other way i can describe it!De—hydrated potatoes, canned vegetables,decaying cow, discoloured salads and last but surely not least-—- service station potatoe chips. All which may or I may not lead to the fact that an outbreak of scurvy is almost inevitable.

Today (tuesday) they served egg sandwiches which didn't taste much like egg sandwichesgfor a moment i thought i could hear chickens clucking but my anxiety was soon put at ease as 1 real- ised that the sound was coming from a student whose dinner

I did not coincide with the wishes

of his stomach.

I wish the student Union or who ever is in charge of hireing such a group of misfits would immediately attemot to aquire be- tter results fromthem.
