The freak windstorm came out of the north as Hilda. now hardly more than a heavy rain- storm, continued to push east- northeast through southern Mis- sissippi. Its top winds, once 120 miles an hour. were only 50 m.p.h and still falling.
Hilda, blamed for at least 30 deaths and millions of dollars in property and crop damages in Louisiana's Cajun Country, shared responsibility for the violent windstorm that hit here with startling suddenness.
