LONDON, Feb. 16.-—Few people are aware that Ramsay MacDonald was once the subject of a set of illustrations to a. novel.

The late William Black. towards the end of his career us a popular novelist, had written a story which was to be serlalised in Harper's Magazine. In the course of the story a young Socialist" was in- tioduced. It was almost the first Socialist to figure prominently in a novel, and the artist to whom the illustrations were entrusted wns puzzled as to his subject. He was recommended to attend a meeting of ardent young Socialists in London. He went to an obscure hull and during the evening a young man with a striking distinction 0t manner addressed the meeting. “lleres my mun!" said the artist to himself. l
