In the years that are passed he had much hard, and rough, and not always successful cam- paigning todo for the Liberal party ; and he has suffered in cousequence. If party service is the essential condition in respect to gubernatorial appointments, it may be admitted that Lientenant Governor Mclutyre bas earved jis position as we!l as any of his competitors in the race for the appointment. Wehopethat he will prove to be a worthy successor of L-eutenant Governor Howlan. The nephew of the late Bishop Mclatyre ought to be a good governor. However this may prove to be, we feel sure that Mre, McIctyre will preside at Government House with grace and dignity, and perform her part asthe leader of society to the satisfaction of every ejucated and reasonatle person.

—The latest theory is that the Leader of the Government has been byprotized by Mr. Gabriel McDonald,—theugh bow Mr. McDonald “got a chance at bim” is not stated.

The Gulnare will be here next week, on the same service.”

Compare this division of the Province for electoral purposes, with the conditions that will exist if the Redistribution Bill now before Parliament ehould be passed. There will be but three electoral districts , returning five representatives! King’s County, with a population of 26,633 will bave but one mewber of the House ef Commons, while Priace County with a population of 36,470 will bave two, or one member for 18,235, of its inhabitants. Thus the difference us against King’s Is noithis scandalous, and oug it not every jndependent newspaperand fair-minded man to protest againstit? At present there is a slight unavoidable difference in favor of Prince County. But, according to the Laurier bill, King’s is to be treated with gross injustice as compared with Priuce. Queen’s County is to have one representa~ tive for 22,897 of its inhabitants, the differ- ence in its favor, as against Kiag’s, being 3,646. This is not so bad as ia the case oetween King’s and Prince ; but it is bed enough. Itis nearly 1,000 greater than the greatest difference under the present arrangement,

His Worship the Mayor is in receipt of a letter from Mr.T.M. Kirkwood, of Sud- bury, Ontario, who desires to obtain a thousand acres of land between Summer+ side and Charlottetown for pasturage. He ia willing to take them in farms of 100 or 200 acres each, “‘as close to each other as possible’, Application may be made to the Mayor or to Mr. Kirkwood himself. Mr. Kirkwood will come to see the farme when he hare from those whe have places to offer. The opportunity to sell or lease seems to bea good one for land owners; and Mr. Kirkwood is evidently a man to cultivate.’
