Spirit of the West

The UPEI Halloween Pub was a Scary success as an apparently popular band invaded the Barn for a night of wine, witches, and song. "Spirit of the West", for those who didn’t make the pub, is a group of four whose music is danceable and intriguing. Often their songs had a political theme, protesting such things as environmental degradation and human rights. They also had lighthearted songs

about various places they have played one being St.

John’s, Newfoundland. Many (very many) people from outside of our University community came to hear this band and none I spoke with left disappointed (or sober for that matter). A popular group such as this would do well if they were to come here again. Maybe.

In keeping with tradition, costumes were a big part of the night’s fun. Congratulations to Count Dracula and Lucy, winners of the prizes for best costume. Among the other dresser-uppers was hive

of honeybees, three killer bunnies, a pack of wild dogs, a convent of nuns on the run, some women in bad need of a shave and George Bush whose advice was: "We must be prudent.” Thanks to all who dressed up for making the pub a success and for giving the CP’s such a good time trying to figure out whose J.D. they were reading.

Good luck to all as you endeavour to succeed academically and remember to come to the Barn when you need a break from your studies. And to our regular patrons, a study break is always a good idea. See you at the next pub.
