THE LATE MR. JOHN HOLMAN.

In the death of Mr. Jobn Holman Char- lottetown loses a respected and well kno vn citizen, who has passed away at the advanced age of 78 years. Mr. Holman was a native of England, and came to this Island over fifty years ago. Iudustrious and thrifty in business, he enjoyed leisure in hie Jatter days, Until a few months ago he was to be seen almost daily on our streets, and appeared so active and #0 geniai in manner thrt few would take him to be paet middle life. The deceased leaves two daughters, his wife having died several years ago. One daughter, Mrs. Smallwood, is a widow, and the oiber the wife of Mr. C. B. Chappell, architect,

The funeral took place from Mr. Chap- pell’s residence, Queen Street, to the. Peo- ple’s cemetery this afterpoon, and was at- tended by a very large number of persons from town and couutry. The Rev. G. M. Campbell and Rev. W. J. Kirby conducted the services. The pall bearers were Saniuel McRae, J. T. Mellieh, Alex. Horne, John Whear, W. C. Colwill and John Drake.

MR. PAYETTE REMEMBERED.

Yesterday was the fifty-fourth anniver- sary of the birth of Mr. Payette, the es teemed superintendent of the sew Roman Catholic Uathedral, and his employes took advantage of the occasion to present him with a gold-headed cane acd au address in commemoration of the event. The address was read by Mr. Edward J. Duffy, foreman. It reads as follows:

The accident occurred near the London Honee corner, and the lad was crossing the street at thetime.
