PICTOU, N. S., June flu-Every- thing is in readiness for the formal opening of Plctou Lodge, the popu- lar seaside summer resort owned and operated by the Canadian Na- tional Railways on the south shore of the Strait of Northumberland, four miles out of Plctou on June 28th, stated John Odowd the Man- ager here today. Considerable im- provements have been made to the bungalows and the beach has also been considerably improved, this be- ing one of the popular features of the Lodge, the salt water being de- lightfully warm along this ‘shore. Billie sat up very straight.

"I don't know how you happened to marry all the Temple millions. But I do know you got a break al- most any girl in New York would sell her soul for. Yet you let a bunch of Broadway chlselers come out here and scare you to deetn. And you've got more brains than all the rest of that bunch put together-and more personality."

Charity watched her silently and did not speak. Billie plunged on with great difficulty.

“I cut your hair and put some rouge on you, and when you went down to the beach there wasn't a girl there who looked any better. You're a type. And that's about nll any of them iii-e. Take the glad rags off their back and keep them away from the beauty parlor a few weeks and they'd look lust like you did."

IDEALS WHITE AND PURE .

In looking up something for a reply to the Roll Call, and find- ing it in an old Messenger my thoughts were carried back to the clays of the war, with its hopes and fears. Oh what balm to ach- ing hearts was the vlsibn of Easter. It we had ever doubted the Miracle o1’ Easter before, we realized its wonderful power then. We all remember when the report of the battle of Mons came through to us, how our hearts just sickened with the horror of it. Then like balm came the beautiful story of the Angels at Mons. Oh how we love

that story. even though we have been told, it originated in an author's brain. Again when the

tales of the White Comrade of the battlefields came creeping in, in so many different forms, from so many different battles. What a spirit of thankfulness filled our very beings, that the hearts of our men were pure enought to seesuch visions in their darkest hours.

The dark hours of trial in our lives reveal the height or depth of our ideals in life. If our ideal has been and is pure and wholesome, loving and living up to our stand- ard of Christianity, when our dark

The temperance electorate in the cities of Toronto and London have been aroused by the evil results o: the beer rooms to institute move- ments to check these encroach- ments, or better still, to be rid o: them altogether.

In Toronto the Temperance Federation have asked for thle-r abolition and return to_ Govern- ment sale solely through the liquor stores and a vote tobe taken on the issue on New Year's Day.

As a result of organization work. during the month of May. 5,000 persons circulated petitions asking for the privilege of this vote.

Surely-this is a courageous ex- ample of starting a temperance fight in a wet centre.
