Mrs. Waughan and Christy Bell remain much the same,

Mary MoTagua is showing some symtoms of bronchitis. Her case is critical.

Mrs. Parkman is improving.

Mary Ann Doyle, a child admiited yes- dav, has a severe attack.

In the men’s ward, John Crockett is still very weak,

James McDonald is progressing. His throat is very bad, but otherwise his symptoms are net uvfavorable.

Mrs. Parkman is progressing favorably. Mary Anu Doyle is doing well.

LETYER FROM DR, JENKINS.

Sir,—Every man has aright to his own opinion, and if be thinks he knows any- thing, to the privilege of giving public expression to it; but I have no sympathy, but on the contrary, a profound contemp! for those who write anonymously. They must be either ashamed of their name or of their productions, otherwise they would let the public know who they are and what weight their opinions should carry. As far as I have seen,these writers have displayed, as one might naturally expect, extreme ignorance both as to facts and _ the deductions to ba drawn from them.

l intend in due time, for the satisfaction of the public, to publish a comprehensive report on the smallpox epidemic, from which I think it will be seen that the mortality at the smallpox hospital can be reasonably accounted for, and that under the circumatances it has, though large, not been excessive.

RUSTICO CASES.

Sir,—Since my last report Angus Me- Kenzie has taken varioloid ; nurse Curran is doing well. The cases are now hopeful and prospects of good recoveries. The family is in three divisions and must be kept that way for some time until the house is fumigated and thoroughly disinfected. The services of a male attendant was secured. Every effort is put forth to con- fine the disease to this house. It is satis- factory that no more cases have broken out in Mr. Laird’s house, New Glasgow. His flag comes down to-morrow.

Sir,—I would like to know why it is that the Board of Health in their wisdom refuse to allow the Gospel Army to hold their meetings in the upper room, while al! the churches are in full blast. Where do they draw the line? Is it because Captain Mallery and his zealous co-workers do not claim Apostolic succession? or what 2 am told that both the Mayor and the Health Officer are willing and anxious for the meetings to be resumed. Mr. John Snowie shot and captured a fairly large seal one day last week. He has since got sight of another, but was not successful in securing it.

Mr. Benjamin Buntain has just returned home from the neighboring provinces where he disposed of aome valuable horses.

We learn that Mr. John Newson has con- cluded to move the Seaside Hotel some little distance from its present site.

Mr. James L. Smith is now on a yisit to Dakota, His return is anxiously awaite’, as these who are contemplating goirg out there this fail would like to hear Mr. Smith speak of that far-famed territory in favorable terms.
