To the Editor:
This letter is regarding the recent hirings by the U.P.E.I.S.U. In my opinion there was a great injustice done in these hirings. 'Ihe U.P.E.I.S.U. hires its staff on the advice of the Personnel Board.
The Personnel Board meets with everyone who‘has appliedifor a job with the Student Union. They grant you a 15 minute interview During the they ask you a fairly standard (set of questionsrwith the big one being, "Why do you want this job?" which doesn't vary much for different jobs.
‘ I don't believe the use of a Personnel Board is_ the best way for hiring" people for the Student Union. The question Whid'l I wish to raise is, is
the Personnel Board qualified to interview people for the jobs? How many of the Personnel Board have experience as a bartender, waitress, campus policemen, photographer,
radio station manager, nays-
paper editor, etc.? From ' the people they recently recommended to Council to hire, I say no. The person hired for Campus Police, mief has no previous - eXperience with the UPEI Campts Police. ed to hire back many C.P.s. with previous experience, and a good recommendation from the past C.P. dlief. be sure it really best person. for the j'db. The Personnel Board can pretty well hire who they persuaded to hire someone just on the fact one person might like this person.
The 1110 big problems with the Personnel Board are:
‘1) they have no control
factor or someone to answers to, because they don't
have to justify their recamendaticns.
2) they don't have‘to live with their decisions. It doesn't bother them if they hire the right person or not. _
It is the of this writer that the Personnel Board may just have dug their om grave.

Panther Lounge (Sept. 13 —- Sept. 27) and every night I worked, Neil was behind
the bar. People noticed , and complimented on how well
we worked together and said a(fine job was being , accomplished! Whid’l brings me to my next point. The applicants are to name 3 réferences when applying for a job, andnaturally, these should be referred to, not overlooked. So why was only one reference queried? This reference even gave me a good recomrendaticn! I
can see why my other refer- ences weren't asked though; one was the head bartender
In‘ordef‘for these recommendations to be put forth, théy have to be ‘ presented and pasSed at Student Cbmcil. If Oomdl members had voted no instead of abstaining, then things may have been righted. You can't vote maybe! It's either’yes or no! If, Student Comcil weren't a bmdn of diidcen shits. and said what they thought, then things might bedifferent around this place.
