ANKLE Broken.—Whilst shingling hie house on Great George Street, a few days ago, Mr. Michael Egan fell from the roof to the ground, and fractured one of Lis ankles. About this time last year Mr. Egan had his leg broken while working about the ferry wharf.

It appears that the flue took fire in the daytime and, as it was thought, burot out, but some fire remained smouldering, and made its way, during the night, to the woodwork. It was fast making headway when discovered by some friends who happened to arrive late during the night, and who extinguished it. > A Sxeo Annuity.—A Toronto despatch says tnat Sir W C McDonald, the tobacco king, hes made a grant of $500 per year to Mrs Kingsford, widow of Canada’s bistor~ ian. The annuity will be paid Mrs Kings- ford for life. Mr McDonald, it is stated, did not know the late Dr Kingsford or any of his family. He simply madethe grant as amark of appreciation of the noble work of the late historian, who sacrificed practically bis allin order to produce his great work.
