To allow the Communist univIr- sity students to enter Canadian universities, or not, seems to be a pretty live miestlon. of course. there are always considerations below the surface in controversies of this kind. and without knowing all the implications it is not pos- sible to form a definite opinion. On the surface, however, the plan seems to have some advantages. It is rather surprising that the Russians should favor such a scheme. It seems almost a bresch of the Iron Curtain policy to allow Canadian university students to set a look-see at conditions as they exist in Russia. On the other hand, Communist students coming into Canada, and seeing our social and political set-ups, could scarce- ly fail to be impressed with our more favored lot. They might go back as missionaries of democracy and spread the word among their fellows that democratic principles appear to contribute to s larger life than communlstic principles do.

As regards the danger of allow- ing those comminists into our midst, we think it may be some- what exaggerated. According to the old adage: "The devil we know is better than the devil we don't know." so might it be with Com- munists. People in our country who pretend loyalty and devotion to Canada, but who are commun- isls in their beliefs and purposes are more dangerous to us than are

open and avowed Communists coming from Russia. Forewarned is forcarmed.

in the last analysis, if nations with widely divergent ideologies are ever to understand each other. it must come from an interchange of ideas, a better knowledge of each others beliefs and aspira- tions. This can be done only if Canadians, and others like them, become better acquainted with the Russian lite, and Russians, (not the leaders but the common peo- ple of Russia), get a clear view of our way of life. Possibly this inter- change of university students might turn out to he the first faint incision of a scalpel that would cut deeply into the cancer of in- ternational suspicion.

-The death occurred on Sep- tember 25th of Mrs. Joseph A. Dcucette. Mrs. Doucette lived in Tignish all her life, where she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She was a. kind and loving wife and mother, a good and charitable neighbour.

--THANKSGIVING MEETING- The Thanksgiving meetlng of the w, M, s. of the Summerside Pres- byterian Church was held on Tues- day afternoon at the Manse with Mrs. Hilbert Johnston in charge of the devotional period. Following the Call to Worship and prayer the hymn "All People That on Earth Do well" was sung. The Scripture lesson in Psalm 100 was read by Mrs. llarold MacDonald and DYN- cr was offered by Mrs. Bracken Simmons. Mrs. Johnston delivered the meditation entltled"We should Be Thankful" after which the hymn "Sing to the Lord of Har- vest" brought the worship service to a close. The business session was conducted by the president. Mrs. J. S. Perry, when a discussion took place on the thanksoffering meeting which will be held in November. A special collection was received to be forwarded to Mrs. Dickson in Formosa to assist in her work with lepers' children. The

-A very pretty double wedding was solemnized in st. James Church on Monday morning. Oc- tober 6th at 8 a.m.. when Aline Maddix, daughter of Mrs. Anita Maddix of Urbainvlile. and Alice Gallant. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aubin Gallant of Abram's Village were married by the Rev. J. N. Poitier, the former to Mr. Albert Gallant of Mont Carmel and Moncton. son-of Mr. and Mrs. Ar- sene Gallant of Mont Carmel. and the latter to Mr. son of Mrs. Anita Maddix..

Aline was given in marriage by her uncle. Mr. Eric B. Arsenault, and Alice by her father, Mr. Aubin Gallant.

Each couple was attended by the other. Both brides were dress- ed in floor-length white mtln gowns with long veils and carried bouquets of pink carnations.

The flower girls were little Mary Anne Gallant, sister of Alice, and Yvonne Arsenault, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alyre C. Arsensult.

Breakfast was served at the home of Arsenc Gallant, Mont Camel. dinner at the home of Mr. Aubin Gallant. Abrams Vii- lage. and the evening meal at the home of Mr. Eric B. Arsenault, Urbainvllle, where over three hun- dred guests gathered to wish the newlyweds much joy and happl. ness.
