‘ne of Titiaa’s finest pictures has been dixcovered in a most peculiar place. It is owned by some half-casts in Mexico, and adorns one of their churches. Wabulons sums have been offered for it by artisis

who have been to examine the painting. It is guarded in e& most careful manner, and

every visitor is accompanied by an Indian while the pictnreis being viewed. Ex- perts who have seen it agree as to its genu- inenees. The painting is 16 feet long by 7 feet high and is a ecene of the entombment of christ. Iss state of preservation is mar- velou*, considering that more than 506 vears have elapsed since the artist painted it.

Not long ago a genial Van Dyke was discovered in that painter’s native City, Antwerp,in a most singular manner. Io oae of the poorer neighborhoods two houses partly collapsed, which necessi- tated their being demelished together. While the work was in operation one of the workmen came across a very dirty painting, which he threw on one side with eowe rubbish,

Ove ef the other men, who had a little tslent for painting, took it home, with the intention of cleaning it. He was amazed at the exquisite ee and thinking that ne might perhaps be able to sell it, con- sulted a picture dealer. The dealer gave him a smallsum far the canvas, aud a few days later an eminent artist passing the ; shop recognized itas a genuine Van Dyke. He purchased it, and, slthough he has received big offers for it, refuses vc sell.

Lonpon, Feb. 11.—A marvelous es- cape from death was that ofaman vamed Albert Dack, of Watergate street, Deptford, who waSthrown froma train bya crowd of card sharps onthe Great Northern Railway, near Peierborough. The train was running atthe rateof 60 miles an hour. Theman made his way to the signal box,ihree milee from Peterborough, aud there ina dazed condition, he gave aa account of what bad happened. In the Peterborough iufirmary it was found tha no bones were broken, but that he was suffering badly from’ bruises op the head and face.
