Old Home Week and Provincial Exhibition will be officially opened at 8 o clock Monday evening, August 9th. -

HARNESS HORSE RACING

Islanders love harness horse racing and Old Home Week provides thrills aplenty in this great and popular sport. Always a major attrac- tion this year's week-long program bids fair to top all previous records both from the standpoint of entries and competition offered.

There will be six nights and three, possibly four, afternoons of rac- ing. Some of the highlights will be:

MONDAY NIGHT--FREE-FOR-ALL PACE AND 2:25 PACE

Outstanding horses including Free-For-Allers not entered in pub- iished list will be given an opportunity to race in overnight events, weather permitting.

The track at the Charlottetown Driving Park is lightning fast and records have been toppling with some of the fastest miles in the Mari- tlmes being recorded. -

inces, Charlottetown will be the mecca for racing enthusiasts from near,

and far Old Home Week.

VAUDEVILIE PROGRAM

Entertainment before the Grand Stand has been well looked after with the securing of some top flight perform- ers. A variety of acts will feature the vaudeville. Includ- ed in the program will be Sonny Moore and his dog act, Heerdink Trio of acrobatics and another high ranking per- formance from the Lynch Show.

COUNT ERNESTO

This year's grandstand program will be enlivened by one of the greatest comedy acts ever to appear before a local audience. This is Ernie Wiswell, better known as "Count Ernesto and his Funny Ford."

In the years he has been building zany devices into what was originally an ancient Ford touring car. Ernie has come up with some fantastic gimmicks, many of which he has patented. R

According to information received from George A. Hamid & Son, noted booking agency for outdoor attractions. Wiswell's "Dizzy Linie" sprays fountains of water from its radiator cap, explodes at both ends and underneath, blows its hood into the air, emits billows of smoke and flames, rears and bucks like a bronco and finally chases its "trainer" around the track, apparently steering itself.

Twenty years of constantly testing gags for laugh- value before live audiences have produced Ernie Wiswell's masterpiece of screwball mechanics.

MIA & MATTI

Mia and Matti are a team who will bend over back-

ward, and also frontward, to please an audience.

That is to say they are an outstanding team of acm- batic contortlonists and you will have an opportunity to see them during Old Home Week at the Provincial Ex-

LIVE STOCI

Live Stock enthusiasts will really have something to "o " and "uh" about in this year”: exhibits. Without doubt they are representative of the finest specimens in the Province. Many new breeders are showing and judges will have a difficult time in deciding the "best of the show."

The judging always attracts keen interest and it's a sure bet this year that the Coliseum where judging takes place will be crowded to see the cream of Island Live Stock on parade.

Once again we take pride in the fact that our encouragement coupled with that of the Dominion and Provincial Governments, has brought our standard of quality so high that we are known through- out the length and breadth of the American continent as among the best producers of special types of Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Swine and Poultry.

We want everyone to take an interest and lend encouragement to this very important side of our Old Home Week program. Our exhib- itors are in no small way contributing to the prosperity of the Garden of the Gulf.

We invite and urge the public to visit the numerous Live Stock barns which will be crowded with cattle valued at many thousands of dollars..

POULTRY

me Exhibition will be a mecca for pounrry enthusiasts. The best of the live ones will be on display in the special Poultry Building. Now a big business, interest in poultry extends from one end of the Province to the other.

SOMETHING NEW ADDED

An all steel building 225 by 150 feet is being added to the Provincial Exhibition Plant. Dubbed "The Coliseum" the major part of the con- struction will be finished by Old Home Week, but the interior will re- quire some additional time. p

In this building will be exhibits and Judging Ring. It will be e asset to both public and judges whenyiewing the popular Live St

entries. Filling a long felt want it should prove one of the most popular-

buildibgs on the ground situated prominently in the midst of the Fair Grounds.

The seating capacity will be limited this year, but nevertheless it

Mia and Matti have now been performing together for over five years. It began when Mia was doing professional ballet work at the Revue Theatre in Helsinki and a young man named Matti Funnonen was doing a solo acrobatic turn there. The producer at the theatre suggested that they practise together, since he knew that Mia was al- ready 1: contortionlst as well as a ballet dancer.

Since that time they have exhibited throughout Fin-

'land, Norway. Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland,

Holland and England. They have given command per- formances for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth as well as for the late King of Sweden and the King of Den- mark.

"Our most unusual performance," Matti recalls, "was

given at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City during the Miss-
