Dear Editor: In reference to the Maclean’s ranking:

Iam sure that the Maclean’s staff were gathering this informa- tion to show Canadians where our problems lie in our education. Iamalso sure they should have more thoroughly researched the ranking before printing this.

It almost seems that they slander the smaller universities in sucha way that ‘‘Students who are unusually bright can go to the ‘bestschools.’’ That’s alot of bullshit. Some of these brilliant students go through the large, crowded (three to four hundred students) classes, drinking and partying, and when they gradu- ate, they come outas cold, half-uncaring robots, sent through the best system to make money. You don’t have to have a 95% average to be smart and wise.

WeatU.P.E.I. should not listen to Maclean’s for the sole reason that they all don’t have too much concern about what damage they do to a learning environment. Are we to believe that we are ‘‘dumb’’ because we have a small budget, small campus and aless than average amount of PhD professors on staff? No.

We have a unique atmosphere here. We can talk with professors one-on-one because of our homey atmosphere and friendly attitude to our world, its problems and have caring answers to the world’s situations. Cheer up U.P.E.L., they are just crazy.

A Response to Jack D. Proud’s Take a Chance, Imaginations:

No, Jack, Ican’t blame you for not telling anyone ‘cause I too suffer from your affliction which I choose to call ‘‘fear of rejection’’.

Fear of being rejected is one hard thing to overcome, especially being a male, I’m sure, but luckily I’m a woman so I don’t have to worry about it as much since I don’t ever make the first move, as a rule.

However, I did once in the form of a letter and the damn thing ended up coming back to me but before it did, the guy asked me - out, anyway. It certainly was a strange coincidence, but what can I say? Atleast I tried. Unfortunately, he and I were not

ready for each other, not then, anyway. I’m holding onto the hope that we will give ourselves another try. I keep wanting to tell him how I feel, but like you, I’m scared -- scared that he will kill our love for good. So what does a person do? Does he (or she) go for it or always wonder if ‘‘it’’ could have been. By the way, Jack, Ismoke cigarettes and wear glasses.
