Terminals Malfunction

If you are one of the many UPEI students who use the computer from time to time, then you are probably one of ’ the students who have been ‘‘knocked”’ off the system for some inexplicable reason. Well no longer are you going to be kicked off the system without warning for no reason. We have learned why this problem can occur randomly.

Talking with the personnel from the computer center, we discovered that a junction be- tween the terminal and the actual computer, known as a port, was not working pro- perly. Although this is just one of many ports available, it seems that this particular port has a nasty habit of inter- fering with the smooth opera- tion of the other ports. Ah, you say, let’s fix the port. That’s exactly what the com- puter center is doing. There is still one video terminal left in the Robertson Library room that doesn’t work for a dif- ferent reason — it’s broken. With all things taken into ac- count, by the time you read

this, the problems should have been corrected.

In fact, in light of the com- puter center’s complete move

to its new location in the Vet .

College, we’re very fortunate to only have intermittent line problems. If something major went wrong during the move,

we probably couldn’t even log in to the computer, let alone be logged out randomly. The

point is this: the computer lines weren’t working 100 per- cent, but they should be work- ing fine now. If you have any

problems with the computer, mail a message to account VESSEY and a copy to SYSTEM. You’ll find that it’s better to mention a slight pro-

blem early, than a major one

The 1987 Yearbook is under preparation right now and we need you. If you are interested in the yearbook (whether or not you’ve expressed the interest yet),

then feel free to come to next Tuesday, October 28/86 nights meeting. The meeting will be held on the fourth floor of Main Building and there’s free pizza for all who attend. Thes session will start about 6:30 pm and last an hour. If you are interested, we will be conducting

a layout session after the meeting where everyone gets to

learn about producing a real yearbook — in color. All are welcome to attend. Come on, show your support for the yearbook by going to the meeting, Tuesday, October 28, at 6:30 (and have some pizza on us).
