The more optimistic trend of sil- ver fox values is probably due to the reported settlement between Ger- many and France cf the Saar Val- ley dispute in which France is said to be receiving 11,000,000 tons of coal and $30,000,000 in gold as compensa- tion. the Germans to tallrc over the valley and mines, with the Jewish element to be fully reestablished in their rights, without molestation.

If the above settlement can be reached between the two most an- tagonistic nations in Europe there is ,considered ground ior optimism in ‘international relations; and, if so, the iur world will benefit very greatly. The passage referring ic the liberty of the Jews being safeguard- ed may mean that they will also re- ceive more liberal treatment in Ger- many. It was the Jews who con- ducted most of the fur business in that country, and the expulsion cf a large umber oi them, and the boy-i cott oi their business, added to thc| fact that importatlons such as furs have been frowned upon in Ger- many, has made a very difficult sit- uation for the general fur trade. This has meant a considerable de- cllne in the cheaper grades of silver fox which would come into competi- tion for trimming purposes with oth- er furs.

Tile success oi the Hudson's Pay company sale, as referred to above, will be gratifying news to our thou- sands oi silver fox farmers here. At the same time it must be remember- ed that the decline was considerably more than ‘ll-l.- per cent in October- prnbably ‘i5 per cent: so that we are not quite beck to the high avenue which prevailed during the early part of this year.
