Hints to Parents.

One of the greatest mistakes parents can make in dealing with their child« ren is to threaten to tell the policeman it a child will not be good, Such threats should never be made, and it is only necessary to give the matter a thought for parents to see the harm that may be done. Ifa child should have the misfortune to get lost on the streets, one of the safest hands it may get into ts that of a_ policeman. such a child, however, has been led to dread even the name of such a _ being, imagine the terror the little one will feel if at such a time he even sees one of these “majesties of the law.” Cases are known where a child has never re- coveredirom the fright of being taken by a policeman to some place, say the station-house, to wait untli its parents have been located.

Children cannet have too much fresh air, but so Jong as the weather is cold they should be given a run anda lift in the car and baby carriage altern ately. The method of locomotion adopted by very young children is not very expeditious, and they are scarcely able te get thoroughly warm on. their own account. Never let the little folks go out feeling cold. Let th m start with the fullest supply of animal warmth which is then likely to remain with them whilst they are out. The morn- ing walk should be preceded by a hot drink, such as half-a-cup of beef tea, cocoa, or milk, with bread, or bread and butter, as the case may be; and in the afternoon the children are thoroughly warm after the substan‘ia! midday meal. Headgear requires a little thought, as nursery children want hats that afford some protection to their ears, though it is not necessary that these should be covered up, ex- cept in the case of infants lying in their perambulators. Whilst sending young- sters out in nearly every sort of a clear day it is well to guard against the east wind which is as treacaerous as it is malevolent.—Canadian Home Journal.
