Rev. C.R. Webber addressed the meeting briefly during which he emphasized the value of the work done by the Lions Club especially for the blind and expressed his enjoyment at the opportunity of sharing the hospitality of the club on behalf of his wife.

Deputy Governor Russ Kelly. speaking on behalf of the district governor, told the gathering he had received a telegram from the district governor expressing his regrets at being unable to attend the function due to previous com- mittments.

Mr. Kelly expressed the feelings of many of the members present in his reference to an address he had heard some time ago, dur- ing which it was stated: “The ser~ vice we give is the rent that we pay for the space that we take up in this world” and admonished his listeners to keep this advice In mind.

Zone Chairman Eric Jessome of Kensington congratulated the club on its excellent work during the past four years of which he stated "they could be very proud."

Club President Mercier Mullin admonished his members to follow the leadebship of charter presi- dent Herb Schurman and charter members in the excellent work they have accomplished and add- ed that although the hockey night in which the club sponsored the Ottawa-Hull Juniors was not a success he said he felt that it was a big feather in the hat of the club to have been the sponsors. President of the Lionettes Club Dot MacQuarrie replied .fittingly to the toast to the ladies proposed by Art Bo'idreau.

Beta Hi-Y Has Regular Meeting

SUMMERSIDE — On Monday Lvening November 24, the regular meeting of the Beta Hi-Y was held at the Y Center with president Heather Clark presiding.

The worship period was led by Marjorie Shanks the theme being “Study To Show Thyself Approv- ed Unto God.” The scripture les— son was taken from St. Matthew 7:24-27.

Roll call and collection were ta- ken with 14 members present.

The treasurer‘s report was giv- en by the treasurer Joyce Burns. The business meeting opened with Joyce Burns, giving her report on the Hi-Y council.

Report on the pantry sale was given by Judy MacLean which was not as good as expected.

The business meeting closed with the discussion on the Hi-Y Induction Service which Was held on Saturday night at the Y Cen- ter and was followed by a dance.

Celebrates 60th. Anniversary

MARGATE — On Sunday Nov. 2th Margate United Church cele- brated th'e 60th anniversary of the present church building which was dedicated on Sunday morn- Ing. October 9th, 1898. when the Rev. F.A. Wightman was pastor of the Margate Circuit. The build- ing was the first contract under- raken by the firm of ME. Schur- man and Co.. Kensington.

Margate first appeared as the head of a Methodist Circuit in the year 1858, and the anniversary celebrations also embraced the 100th anniversary of the church.

Margate had been frequently visited before that from Charlotte- town and Bedeoue. During the the early years of the newly es- tablished circuit the appointments were Margate, Stanley Bridge, Granville. Bowness School House, summerside, Port Hill and Fifteen

Runaway Cow Eludes Searchers

The cow had been purchased"

from Stanley Mayhew in Kinkora, and had been transported by Its new owner to his Belmont, Lot 16 farm where it was to have been unloaded and stabled in the barn with the other cattle.

As he went to take the now from the truck, the animal broke the rope by which it had been tied. and Mr. Ramsay, who was unassisted, was unable to hold the cow which broke away from him and fled to a nearby woods
