Dear Miss Dix-I have been thinking about your article concerning peo- ple who have money, and why they don't give it away while they are alive instead of leaving it when they die. I can tell you why they don't. I have seen what happens when a rnan or woman puts his or her-hand in their pockets and pays for something that is the responsibility of another human being. The prst time it happens the receiver is very grateful, the next time he expects it, and the third time he dumps all of his responsibilities on he donor. If it were purely a matter of money, the rich might charge this up to profit and loss, but it goes deeper than that. It weakens the morale.
