Doyle, Esqra’appeared as counsel for the prisoners. Sir'Cl'iarles Adam, in his uniform as admiral of the British , _.Navy, presiddd. The members oftlie court were all in their placesgthe 'Chief Justice and Judge Halliburton, on the right of Sir Charles Adam; Judge Bliss and Juries Hill-0n the left. The whole appearance was that of much solemnity, and the commissioners, as Well as the Attorney General, and the Attorneys on belialfofthe Prisioners, appeared deeply impressed with the- responsibility which devolved upott them. ’ _ ,But four of the prisoners at the liar were put upon their trial on the charge 0! Piracy, viz: Jones, Hazleton, Ander- son, and Trevaskiss, alias Johnston. The indictment was mm by the Registrargofthe Court. Before the trial procee- ded, Mri-Uniaoke rose and stated to the Court that Trevas- kiss, alias Johnson, who pleaded not guilty on Saturday, ’ Wished to withdraw that plea, and plead guilty. On the question beingvpnt to the prisoner by the Chief Justice, -. whether he wished to withdraw his former plea, the prisoner'drew a paper from his pocket which he begged I leave to read. The Court deimirred, as the prisoner was already in the charge of the Jury, and the reading ofthe document would be irregular, but gave him an opportunity , ofrdoing so at a subsequent stage of the proceedings. 3 The Attorney General addressed the Jury at considerable ,Iength, stating the whole case in a clear and forcible inan- tier. " Witnesses were then called on the part ofthe Crown, to detail "what had occurred at Country llarboiir when the Siladin went ashore—the stories told by the crew-«the con- dition in which the ship was found when boarded. 1, George Jones, first joined the Saladin at Valparaiso, crew 12 in number, and two others (Captain Fielding and his son George); was working my passage as sailmaker, but acted as steward, by Captain McKciizie's request, iiiitil after passing Cape Horn, when John Galloway took the sun- alien, and I repaired some oftlie sails. \Vhilo iii the cabin, as steward, frequent differences occurred between Capt. McKenzie and Capt. Fielding; the latter in consequence would. often refuse to come to table at meals ; and l have heard Capt. McKenzie say to the mate oti these occasions, I at it served him right for giving Fielding a passage free.

The Jury then retired, and after about a quarter ofau hour’s consultation, returned a verdict of GUILTY against the four prisoners. The Court then adjourned. '
