The well-known Student Work Abroad Program (SWAP), where students travel to other countries and ‘employment is found for them for a period of time is also aservice of CFS-Services. Currently through SWAP, Canadian students can travel to Britain, Treland, France, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Czecho- slovakia, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the U.S. Another aspect of CFS - Services is the Canadian Programming Service (CPS). CPS is Cana- da’s largest speaker’s bureau and it provides speakers on a wide variety oftopics. Speakers ranging from Peter Mansbridge to Elijah Harper can be booked for gatherings through CPS. Both SWAP and CPS are provided at lower cost to students who are members of CFS. The Travelagency ‘‘Travel CUTS”’ (Cana- dian Universities Travel Service) is also owned by CFS -Services’ 450,000 members. Travel CUTS is the third largest travel agency in the country and itis unique because it seeks to provide travel at low cost to students. Lower prices are usually available to students on domestic and international air and rail travel. Travel CUTS has over 30 offices, the closest of which to PEI are Halifax and Fredericton. Both of these offices courier tickets to bookings from PEI. Both CFS and CFS-Services are membership driven and democratically run. What this means is quite simple. They are run only according to how the majority of member student associations decide they shall be. These decisions are made most commonly at the CFS(-S) General Meetings which are held twice yearly, with representatives from the member associa- Hions i in attendance and voting on such things as what the priorities will be for CFS’s political lobbying, vampaigns, and research and how CFS-Services will

Je run. Between meetings the CFS(-S) National Executive meets several times to handle these matters. Student associations give directions to their repre- sentatives on the National Executive (PEI has a voting lepresentative with the same voting rights as On- fario’s). The end result of this membership-orientéed Hructure is that CFS(-S) is run according to how the tlected representatives of the students that make it up lecide itshould be. On local campuses it is the esponsibility of the local student unions or associa- fons to promote CFS(-S) to students.
