REPORT FROM KROONSTAD!.

Kroonstapt,May 14.—President Steyn has gone to Lindley, the new seat of tie Free State Government.

A number of Burghers are treking homeward. Qpposition in the Free Siate is practically over.

All the prisoners in the hands of the British here agree that the quarrel be- tween the Free Staters and the Trans- vaalera is eo acute that the Transvaalers have iecided to leave their allies whom they accuse of cowardice and lack of patriotism,

Most ofthe Transvasi prisoners think that if they are defeated at Vaal River the Boers will retreat to Pretoria.

But there appears to be growing dis- trust in their Transvaal Government.

In a word the back of the Boers resist- ance seemsto have been broken. The Burghers are noi fighting with their pra~ vious stubborness. They seem ready to retreat on the slightest pretext.

The prisoners, even the Transvaalers, appear giad to have been captured. They say they are sick of the war,which caa only have one ending.

Several have exclaimed: “We have jost our liberty but why should we lose our lives.”

President Steyn is reported as having been frantic with rage, as having kicked and cuffed burghers after vainly implor- ing them to continue the fight.

Lindley, the new Free State capital, is 45 miles southeast of Kroonstadt half way to Bethlehem.

FIGHTING IN NATAL,

Lexpox, May 14.—The Standard pub- lishes the following from Durban, dated Sunday: There are persistent rumors here ef heavy fighting in Natal.

A Red Cross train left last night for the north.
