On January lat. the dwelling and store of Joseph Arthur Noonaii. Tryon. was destroyed by fire. with a property loss of 314,405.00. On February 22nd. Roy M. Young, Earnscllife. had the misfortune to lose by fire his large barn and all its contents. including cattle, horses, feed and machin- ery. with a loss of over 310.000.

On May 7th. the Baltic Starch Company. Souris. had their Starch Factory at East Baltic destroyed by fire. causing a loss of 876.200.00 to the building and equipment.

On June 20th. the apartment buildings of the Estate of the late John K. Curran. Summer- side. was burned. The loss was approximately 335,000 to the buildings and furniture.

There were four casualitles from fire on the Island in 1956. but we are pleased to report that. so far in 1957 we have had no deaths resulting from fire.
