Ever wonder what happens to the huge pile of leaves fluttering down to the ground, sometimes thwacking us in the face, so visible this time of year?

Right, neither have I.

Maintenance could be collecting them for a huge bonfire they have ever year, during which veterans on the force sit around the blaze becoming maudlin.

Or the leaves might simply rot. So what?

So has it ever struck you that these leaves are pre- dominantly Orange?

Ah ha, I thought not. You honestly have never realized the significance of the autumn leaves turning orange, have you? Poor innocent you, to imagine you can pass the rest of your lives without ever contemplating Orange.

But Orange is more than a colour. It is a religion, a

political system.

In 1708, three hundred young visionary young ladies were burned at the stake as witches because of a fondness of Orange.

The real reason Trudeau resigned as Liberal leader was because the press threatened to expose his fetish for Orange, a revelation Which would have radically altered our present system of government.

For the good of the party, Pierre stepped down.

Mulroney, on the other hand, prefers green plaid. And that tells you exactly where this country is heading.

What colour are the abundant fall leaves?

Orange.

What colour are the little dots over the letters in the UPEI logo?

Not brown, as you thought, but Orange.

What colour radiates from the Psych Club Hallowe’en Party posters? That’s a sure sign of where modern psychology is heading. Prepare to abandon ship.

Frighteningly, such singals of a bizarre new world are on the rise. not the wane, and Canertech, the energy conservation project, is to blame.

Deny it if you will, but, although these lights give “500% better light, at one-third the cost of the old fixtures,” their aurchase was a serious and perhaps fatal blunder.

We all know that UPEI is a hotbed of student activism, a place where all have forgotten how to spell appathy, and a chasm of high emotion and suggestibility.

Tell me, o powers that be, why?

Did thev really have to be Orange?

Dear Editor: My first order of business is to commend you and your

staff on the marked improve- .

ment in the Gem. You have trained the paper into some- thing that one looks forward to reading.

I do however have a couple of criticisms which are in- tended to be constructive rather than malicious.

The first comment I must make is regarding the an- nouncement, “Dorsey to can sub-organizations”.

I believe you were rather presumptuous in printing what you did. I would have preferred if you had done some investigative work to

uncover my intentions, as I only briefly mentioned it during my report to Council.

The intention behind this act was to clean up the sys— tern. Right now we have a file of ancient suborganization constitutions and numerous accounts which haven’t been touched in years.

My idea was to abolish status and give a three-month period during which the suborgs could reapply. During this period the club would retain tentative powers and rights within the Union.

If the organization does not come to Council before the deadline, the old con— stitution and the moldy ac- count will be laid to rest, leaving the Union with a revitalized network of sub- organizations.
