In response to: ‘‘Students who are angered by your actions’’ and ‘‘1 Mad Student’’.

We would like to respond to the letter you (whoever you are) recently submitted to the UPEI X-Press. First of all we are not agreeing or disagreeing with your point of view, however we do not feel that you and your cohorts represent the student body’s opin- ions any more than we do. However the people you decided to criticize were elected to represent the student body and are trying their best to do so. It would be an impossibility to expect their decisions to be acceptable to the entire student population, thus the only option they have is to try and satisfy the major- ity of students and we are sure they are trying their best to accomplish this goal. Secondly, if you feel the need to ridicule the Executive and the decisions they make, why don’t you exercise your right to discuss these matters with the members of the Executive. The Student Union Office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm, and the receptionist would be more than glad to set up an appointment for you. These people do not possess any evil powers and they will not hurt you. However, you would probably veto this option because it is on a more personal level and somebody might find out who you are. We are not surprised that people have complaints, that is a fact of life and can be accepted. What we do find surprising is the fact that a University student (supposedly an adult) could write a letter like this and not have the bravery to sign it. If you have the courage to express your opinions in the paper, then sign your name. People will not ostracize you simply because you identify yourself. Basically, what we are trying to say, is this, if you are going to write it, sign it. If

you are not going to sign it, don’t write it. oe

Dear Editor;

The purpose of this letter is to set forth the series of — events that occurred surrounding the first issue of **Alter Ego’’, CIMN’s program guide.

The first issue of ‘‘Alter Ego’’ went to print in De- cember. Unfortunately, after 1000 copies had already been printed and distributed, a list of possibly offen- sive song titles that lacked sufficient context was noticed by the SU executive. This article had no commentary or explanation of why the song titles were being printed and therefore, contradicted CIMN’s obscenity policy.

We were left with the option of destroying all copies, or blackening out the inappropriate article. CIMN Station Manger and the SU executive decided on the latter because we did not want to waste the valuable volunteer time and the money that went into the publication.

It seems that the situation has been blown out of proportion. The management of CIMN and the Stu- dent Union made a joint decision that they felt was in the best interests of all parties. Obviously, there are some people who do not agree with the decision that was made. It is our intention that this letter will clear up any confusion surrounding the incident.
