The land parade started at 11 a. m. There were 24,000 in the parade. When the Admiral reached the archat 24th street he reviewed che procession from a stand nearby. Several of the lad‘es along the line were dressed iu red, white and blue, representing the Stargand Stripes.

Several balts in the procession took place in order thatthe diff-rent organiza- tions might regain any lost distance. One of these stop shappened just when the car- riage containing Dewey and the Mayor was opposite the staud upon which the writer was sitting. Itlasted about five minutes, and gave me a great chance to study the ‘face of ““The Surpriser” as the papers have dubbed him.

Tne street was full of boysand men selling soap boxes and old butter tubs fir people to etand on. The price was 25 cents each at firet ; but I saw a fellow pay $2 for an old dirty box that broke down as soon as he and hisjbest girl got upon it. Then he locked aroand for his $2, but it bad left before he mounted the box.

An amusing part of the parade was a young rewsboy who, when the police were not looking, jumped in behind one of the companies and was saluting the crowds along with the rest of the officers in answer tothe cheers. How long his reign was | allowed to last I cannot tell.

Some of the regiments were hissed, in cluding the 7ch of New York and 15:h of Brooklyn, both of whom refused to go to the frontin Cubs. They were the fioest locking men in the parade too, as far as dress coes, but when you saw the porters

trailing behind with baskets of fruit and refreshments, no surprise was f-lt at their uvt wanting to fight. Fancy a British regiment carrying

refreshments when out on a liitle six mile parada on one of the best streeis in the world. Several times I wished a detachment of Prince Edward Islanders could have swung around and shown them what marching was! I am sure No. | Co. G. P. E. 1. Hosrirat.—At a meeting of the Board of Trusteee of the P. BE. Island Hospital held Jast ev-ning a vote of thanks was tendered Hon, Thos W. Dodd for his handsome contribution of $500 to the heal~ ing and ventilating apparatus of the in- stitution. This amouct is in addition to Lis former eubscriptioa to the building fund. It is expected that the Hospital wil! be finished about the last of November and will be occupied 1n December.

A Goop Inza.—At a meeting in the W.C. T. U. parlors last evening it was decided to establish a social hall in Charlottetown, for the especial benefit of young men over 16 years of age. The ball will be located in part of the W. C. T. U. buildiog, and reading matier, games, music, etc., will be provided. Dr. Ayer’s will be general superintendent, and Mr. J. K.
