The tlrst question brought before the meeting was that regarding the ammunition issued gratis by the Govern- ment for the use of the Volunteers. , It was urged by in- fluential members of tho liegt. that to enable our Vol- unteers to compete successfully with those of our sister Provinces, as much ammunition no possible should be placed at the disposal of all the Companies, free of charge.

After considerable discussion. the following Reso- lution, moved by Lieut. Full of tho “ Prince Edward Company," and seconded by Capt' McIntyre, of the "Irish Volunteers." was put to the meeting, and carried unanimously: -

" This meeting believe that the present amount of bail ammunition is not sumclent for the purpose of itlue prac- tice. and request the Colonel 01 the ltegimcnt to confer with the Commandor-in-Chlcf for the purpose of obtain- ing an allowance oflio rounds of ammunition per man. believing that that amount at least is required for cube. tlve practice." -

The next topic considered was the advislbillty and ne- cessity of an edit-lent [land for the use of the Volunteer Force. and the following Resolution, on motion of Cap- tain i. Hensley. of the “ Prince Edward Company." sec- onded by Capt. Morris. " Charlottetown Artillery," was unanimously adopted :—

“ That in the opinion of thin meeting it is absolutely necesssary for the success of the movent. that a sum suf- ficient, out ofthe annual military grant, be appropriated to obtain the services of a Regimental Band." .

The lecturer first went on to show. that a suiiielont in- centive to translation was the gratification' which the employment aii'orded; and next that the language! should be studied as models. In treating of this part of the subject. he occupied some time in showing. that. although we have translations of the works oi ancient authors, we cannot have as clear a conception of their beauty as if we were a usluted with the original. lie I '11 went on to show 1 let all classes shared in the hen. e to of translation. but more especially the Writer and Grater. The lecturer lastly treated of the Logic of the ancients, and rcceeded to enlarge on the benefits do. rived by the rotor, &e.. from its study. At the close ofthe lecture. a spirited debate ensued. the chief points of dispute boing—‘ whether oratory was a natural gilt or an nequirernent, and whether the study of the lan- guages was more profitable to the laboring classes, than that 01 more practicable subjects.‘ The discussion being over. awoto of thanks was tendered lo the lectur. or for his entertaining lecture which was well delivered.

A man named Patrick Coskley. who arrived here on Tuesday in the Chase from a visit to the United States. was found yesterday morning lying near the Protest- ant cemetery in an inseusibiu condition. On examina- tion a deep cut was found on the back of his head. caused probably by a fbll. lie was picked up and carried to his residence in Harrington street, but has not yet been able to give any account of the cause of the sect. dean—Hr. paper.

The above vessel was built at Georgetown by A. A. McDonald & Bros., in the yard of Mr. Michael Bourke, for her present owners, who express themselves highly pleastid both with the model and workmanship of the reuse .
