Two spokesman for private stat- tons said their interests had pros- pered iuidier the present system of administering Canadian radio while two others urged establish- ment oi’ an independent regulatory authority separate from the c130.

The submissions were made as the Commission. whose terms of refer- ence include s study of radio and television broadcasting. devoted 9,‘.- most a full day lo hearing repre- sentations from public and private interests.

The radio issue has taken s prom- inent. place in the Commission's study with private enterprise lined up against public ownership.

The CBC has submitted that it should continue to have jurisdiction over all broadcastintg matters. The Canadian Association of Broad- casters. representing most privately- owned stations, concedes the need for radio regulation but contends there should be a regulatory author- ity separate frcm the CBC. a coim- petitor with private stations for audience and revenue.

Plane Strikes Electric Line, Lands Safely

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 -—(AP'> —A United States Airforce 13-17 plane clipped an electric line while approaching Boiling Field tonight and plunged a big area of the city into darkness but the six men aboard landed safely.

Capt. William J. Lookadoo. pub- lic rotations officer at Bolling. identified the pilot as Lt-Col. w. H. Campbell, 31!. The plane was from Oitftiit Base, Omaha.

One eyewitness said the plane apparently missed an apartment building by about l5 fect before hitting, ADOO-voli wires, 40 fret above the ground.

Canada's Exports Up 17.7 Per Cent During October

OTTAWA, Nov. 2"! -- (C?) —In the first full month after devalua- tion - October _ Canada increas- ed her exports 1't.7 per cent. Eimorts oil.’ domestic products rose to 969,100,000. trom $228,100.- 000 in September, the Bureau of Statistics reported Saturday in its monthly survey of exports.

Imports to the United States rose from $113,700,000 in Septem- ber to $l48.056.000 and shipments to the United Kingdom rose in value from $58,200,000 in Septem- bcr to $72,276,000.

The report. covered the first full month since the September cur- rency shuffle when Canada declar- ed a IO-per-ccnt premium on U.S. funds in terms of the Canadian dollar.

Devaiuation of the Canadian dollar was expected to result. 1'11 increased sales to the U.S., and u‘ shift in some British buying from the U. S. to Canada.

When compared with October last year, however, most exports were dovm.

As a result of higher exports of planks boards and newsprint, e;- ports in the wood and wood procl- iicts group rose to $82,799,000 from $82,031,000 in October last. year. Last October Canada exported ships worth $16,341,000. This Oct- ober there ivere no exports and that brought the total exports in the miscellaneous section down to $8,515,000 from 91.618000.
