Changes On Campus

For the first order of business, I would like to welcome to Campus all ‘‘First-Timers’’ and those who are returning for another semester.

It is my intention to try and enlighten you about changes being made to our roadways, walkways and _ parking areas. I am sure you have noticed the heavy influx of motor vehicle traffic again this year, and some of the problems associated with it.

1. The ‘*Small Visitors’ Lot’’ at the Main Entrance

_ replacement lot is now situated to the West of the Old _ Gym, This new lot is for visitors and bookstore

_ customers only and will be closely monitored.

_ 2. The *‘Large Visitors’ Lot’’ to the West of Duffy _ Science Building has been converted to strictly

_ reserved parking. Only UPEI permit holders with

_ assigned spaces and disabled members of our

_ community are to park in this parking lot. If you do _ hot have an assigned parking space, save yourself

_ trouble and towing fees by avoiding parking in this _ lot. Strict enforcement in this area will be ongoing.

3. Persons who have been accustomed to ‘one-way’ trafficc at the Main Entrance from University Avenue will have to become used to ‘two-way ’ traffic and be extra-vigilant when making this approach. Drive slowly.

4. The service road between the Young Canada Games Centre and the rink will no longer allow clear passage from the West Perimeter Road to the East side of campus. The service road will have a fence to block motor vehicles from moving beyond the Main Entrance to the Young Canada Games Sports Centre, and there will be a ‘turn-around’ which will allow drivers to drop off or pick up passengers and equipment, and then retrace their way to the Perimeter Road to go to the parking lots or exits.

5. We intend to make available a limited number of parking spaces on the North side of the Varsity rink. These will be accessible from the new service road located on the East side of the Young Canada Games Sports Centre.

6. The former walkway on the East side of the Young Canada Games Sports Centre from parking lot D has been converted to a service road with a pedestrian walkway adjacent to it. This will allow buses, vans and service vehicles access to the Young Canada Games Sports Centre, the rink, maintenence and security.

7. Several parking spaces are being prepared on the North side of Steel Building. These too may be reached by way of the new service road East of the Young Canada Games Sports Centre.

8. There will be a fence erected on the East service road bu the North side of Steel Building. This will allow service vehicles to have access to the heating plant but will not allow motor vehicles to go beyond this point.

Hopefully, all of these things make a safer

‘walking’ campus and motorists will have to deal with less traffic congestion. We know there will always be someone who will not be able to find a convenient parking space but please have patience and do not
