A well known Milwaukee newspaper man, the hero of the tale, was confront- ed one Sunday evening many years ago with a problem which the teporter fre- quently encounters—namely, how to get three half hour assignments into one hour’s time. To dispose of two within that period was not difficult, but when at 9 o’clock the task of covering a ser- mon deliyered some 15 minutes before presented itself the problem became more involved. The minister could not be reached, nor could any of the congre- gation be located: consequently he chose

With a laudable ambition to display his versatility, the reporter started to construct a sermon of his own, picturing the evils of the vice under discussion in a fearless fashion and even employing direct quotations to lend vividness to his account.
